You are my Beloved

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately coming up our of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him, and a voice came from the heavens; "You are my beloved Son, in You I am well pleased." Mark 1:9-11

Today is the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus!

Jesus did not have to be baptized, He chose to be baptized!

He allowed the Spirit to come down upon Him, and he allowed the voice of His Father to be heard.

Why?

His baptism shows us the way, the truth and the life.

At our baptisms we were declared His beloved daughters and sons.

Fr. Mike Schmitz said, "The water and the Holy Spirit change us but when Christ touched the waters he changed them."

Jesus is the Priest, Prophet and King!

At baptism we too are anointed priest, prophet and king.

Our identity and mission come from being baptized.

It is through our identity and mission that brings us closer to Christ.

He is the light of the world and He wants us to share in that light.

Christ is bathed in light; let us also be bathed in light. Christ is baptized; let us also go down with him, and rise with Him. St. Gregory Nazianzus

Come, Holy Spirit!
